Move More

Eat Better       Move More       Embrace Change

Keep moving all day long

By working out, you now have more get up and go. So go. You’ll be amazed how simple changes to your daily routine can add up to extra calories burned and help you meet your weight management goals. 100 calories can make a big difference (link to page in Eating that describes 100 calories over 1 year = 10 pounds). So, even after you’ve made it through a fitness session, keep the momentum going!

Simple moves like these throughout the day can subtract calories*.

  • Take the stairs. In 5 minutes, you’ll burn about 50 calories.
  • Walk around the block when you get your mail. Just 10 minutes takes off 60 calories.
  • Pull some weeds and in 15 minutes you’ll rip out 80 calories.
  • Watch TV while you jog on a treadmill. During one 30 minute sitcom you could burn over 300 calories. (If it’s funny, you can tighten your belly, too.)
  • Grocery shopping (30 minutes, 120 calories).
  • Laundry and folding clothes (30 minutes, 70 calories).
  • Shop at neighborhood stores, so you can walk instead of driving. (30 minutes walking, 150 calories)
  • Go to the mall instead of shopping online. (30 minutes, 120 calories)
